OBJECTIVES AND HOMEWORK - December 2

GRADE ONE - Advent
·                 Children will recognize Advent as a time of preparing to celebrate Christ’s birth.
·                 Children will understand that two ways of doing this are praying and showing love for others.
·                 Children will recognize and explain why we use an Advent Wreath,
·                 it’s significance and why it is used.
·                 Children will make a small project to help them prepare to soften their hearts for Jesus.
HOMEWORK:  Color the Advent Wreath sheet, and explain to your parents how to use the Advent Wreath.  Use your little crib to make your heart soft for baby Jesus.

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION – Sin, Temptation, Accident
·                 Children will be able to correctly use the words “forgive” and “sin”.
·                 Children will understand the difference between a sin, an accident and a temptation.
·                 Children will have practice recognizing behaviors as sins, temptations or accidents
HOMEWORK:  Begin to memorize the Act of Contrition

THIRD GRADE – The Lord’s Day
·  Students will practice using the Bible by finding and reading the first three commandments from Exodus.
·    Students will think more about the importance of names, particularly God’s name
·    Students will be led by means of a book and project to think about God, and the joy of spending time with Him
HOMEWORK:  Spend special time with God this week – if you don’t usually pray at bedtime, add that; if you pray at night, but not in the morning, you might add that.  Ask your parents to pray with you!

FOURTH GRADE – Our Forgiving, Loving God
·       Children will explore two scripture stories of forgiveness - the Lost Sheep and the Prodigal Son
·       Children will realize that God cannot forgive if we do not express our sorrow
·       Children will recognize the importance of recognizing and admitting our sins, as well as doing our best to make amendment
HOMEWORK  Before we meet again, at least once pray to the Holy Spirit and go slowly over the Examination of Conscience on this sheet.  (Remind children that anything they think of is private.  They would never have to discuss their sins with anyone but the priest.)  Parents:  Read with your child page 119 in the text; the sections on Examination of Conscience through Confession of Sins.

FIFTH GRADE - Mary
·       Students will explore Mary, and become more familiar with the stories of the Annunciation and the Visitation.
·       Students will be able to explain why Mary is called “Immaculate”.
HOMEWORK    Complete the worksheet and do the take-home test.  Pray the Hail Mary every day this week, giving special thought to the meaning and origin of the words of this prayer.
