SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION, Week Five, October 18, Jesus Shows Us How to Love God the Father

OBJECTIVES

  • Children will learn Jesus' two Great Commandments (Love God and Love Others)
  • Children will explore three ways to love God (based on the first three of the Ten Commandments)
    • We can pray.
    • We can say God's Name with respect and love.
    • We can celebrate the Lord's Day by going to Mass.

Prayer is one of the most important habits that we can develop.  Are you familiar with Matthew Kelly's Prayer Process?  It is such a valuable model for daily prayer.  HERE is a link to Matthew Kelly actually leading us in the Prayer Process.  It is excellent!

One story about prayer that we share in class, is that of a little boy who wanted to remember to pray morning and night, so he took a little stone and when he got up in the morning, put it on his pillow - so at night the stone would remind him to pray at bedtime.  Then he'd put the stone in his shoe, so that in the morning when putting on his shoes, once again he'd be reminded to pray.

I have ordered prayer stones for the children, and with luck (if they arrive in time) your child should be coming home with one this week.  YOU are the best reminder, though.  Try to pray with your child each night as part of your bedtime routine.

HOMEWORK:  Finish the worksheet on prayer.  Practice the Our Father and the Hail Mary with your child, if they do not know these prayers.  Help your child get in the habit of using their prayer stone.
