SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION - February 28

OBJECTIVES:

  • Children will consider how special days are celebrated.
  • Students will hear the story of Passover and understand that Jesus and his family celebrated Passover.
  • Students will become familiar with the first Mass – the Last Supper.
  • Students will review ways in which we show respect and reverence for Jesus.

HOMEWORK:  Complete the homework sheet.

We introduced the idea (for some it is always new) that Jesus was a Jew - and He grew up celebrating the Jewish holidays - including Passover.  We told the children to story of Passover, and used illustrations to let them re-tell it.  Then, children were clearer why Jesus gave us the first Mass, as He celebrated the Passover meal, in what became His Last Supper.

Because this was a lot of "talk" it seemed like a good idea to take the children over to church so that they could get a bit of exercise and discuss ways in which we show reverence and love for Jesus through our various postures and gestures.
