GRADE
ONE
·
Children
will review the Sign of the Cross and discuss how to make it reverently.
·
Children
will read the Doxology out loud.
·
Children
will be presented with the idea of the Holy Trinity.
·
Children
will experience a visual image of the Holy Trinity.
·
Children
will hear a story which offers another analogy to the Trinity.
·
Children
will learn the names of the three persons of the Holy Trinity.
·
They
will learn that St. Patrick presented the Trinity as a shamrock.
HOMEWORK: Parents – try this illustration of the
Trinity with your children: Place an ice
cube in a baggie. Place the baggie in
the microwave and begin to melt the ice.
Some of the water will turn into steam before all the ice is
melted. Point out that water exists in
that baggie in three forms – ice (solid) water (liquid) and steam (vapor). This is “hard” but some children may get
it. Also, work with your child on
learning the Sign of the Cross and the Doxology (Glory Be).

will be led to think about the importance of honesty.

will hear the story of the “Boy Who Cried Wolf”

will review ways we can love God and others.
HOMEWORK: Parents, assist your child, as needed with
the “take home exam”. Make a special
effort to speak of your child’s behavior as being loving or not…
GRADE
THREE
·
Students
will explore the first and second commandments.
·
Students
will take time to recall that all we have comes from God and remember that we
should be thankful
·
Students
will review the first trimester’s work with a Bingo game
·
Students
will learn the word “reverent” and explore what it means.
HOMEWORK Parents and children should complete
the “Putting God First” sheet together.
At home this week, see if you can find, as a family, one additional way
to show love for God. (i.e. adding a prayer before the meal, before bed, etc.
Hanging a picture of Jesus or a cross in the home. Putting a special candle on the dining room
table, to remind everyone of God’s presence. etc.)
GRADE
FOUR
· Students will be able to explain what a
conscience is.
· Students will understand that a
conscience must be “informed” or strengthened and will be able to site ways
that they can strengthen their own conscience.
· Students will understand what a
temptation is.
· Students will know that the two best
ways of avoiding temptations are avoiding near occasions of sin and by praying.
HOMEWORK: Complete the Smart Thinking worksheet.
GRADE
FIVE
·
Students
will understand that God sent prophets to prepare His people for the Messiah
and to call them to repentance.
·
Students
will recognize the Babylonian captivity as God’s punishment for the Israelites
ignoring the prophets
·
Students
will be able to identify Isaiah as a prophet who foretold the coming of the
Savior not as a king but as one experiencing pain and humiliation
·
Students
will understand that the Israelites expected a Messiah who would be a glorious
earthly king who would restore the Kingdom of Israel.
HOMEWORK Complete the Credo worksheet. Do the “Make it Personal” sheet. (This does not have to be returned)
