OBJECTIVES AND HOMEWORK - November 4

GRADE ONE
  • Children will remember that we listen to God. They will also learn that we can talk to God, as well.
  • Children will recognize that talking and listening to God is called Prayer.
  • Children will be introduced to four sorts of prayer : Praise, Asking,
Thanks, Saying we’re sorry
  • Children will recognize several times of the day when we ought to pray – morning, bedtime and mealtime
HOMEWORK: Parents, if you do not already pray before meals and at bedtime in your home, begin this week to try to get into this habit. Praying with your children is such an important way to help them develop holy habits.

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION TWO
  • Children will explore how loving others includes obedience, kindness, respect and purity.
  • Children will have several opportunities to think about how they can behave in loving ways in their everyday lives.
HOMEWORK: Parents, go over the “Review Sheet”; this is a sort of “take-home-exam” so you can see how much your child is learning. Your child should have both the review and an answer sheet.

THIRD GRADE
  • Students will become familiar with the story of how Moses was given the Ten Commandments
  • Students will explore the Ten Commandments
  • Students will have an opportunity to think about the negative and positive implications of the Ten Commandments
HOMEWORK: With parents, students should complete the Ten Commandment sheet.

FOURTH GRADE
  • Students will review the stories we have covered this year to make a simple timeline.
  • Students will be introduced to the idea that our year is based (loosely) on the time that has passed since Jesus was born.
  • Students will familiarize themselves with the story of the Tower of Babel and its significance
  • Students will be exposed to the idea of figures.
  • Students will hear a story that emphasizes the humble nature of true goodness
HOMEWORK Watch for ways to do good deeds and loving kindnesses during the week. Make a list of all the little things you do. Put your list into the basket at Mass next Sunday. Remember that money is only one way of giving.

FIFTH GRADE
  • Students will be able to identify the Ark of the Covenant as a place where the Ten Commandments were kept and where God was present to His people.
  • Students will be familiar with the Tabernacle
  • Students will see how the Tabernacle was a prefiguring/type of Christ
  • Students will experience a musical meditation on Abraham’s Sacrifice
HOMEWORK With your parents, look up more about the Tabernacle on one of these websites and be ready to share something next week:
http://www.bibleplaces.com/tabernacle.htm or http://www.templebuilders.com/Index_tabernacle.php
The information on the Tabernacle on these sites is good; we don’t guarantee the remainder of the site, however!
